Who We Are
The Downtown Danville Association (DDA) was formed in 1999 to
coordinate efforts to revitalize Downtown Danville. The organization
is comprised of an all volunteer Board of Directors including representatives
form Downtown merchants, the City of Danville, Downtown property
owners, banks, City Schools, Danville Science Center and the Danville
Historical Society.
While Danville was designated as a "Virginia Main Street Community"
in 2000, due to some organizational structure changes in 2007, we
now enjoy "Affiliate" status with the Main Street Program.
The program is over 20 years old and is recognized as the most successful
formula for downtown revitalization. Our commitment to the Main
Street approach to revitalization remains strong.
What We Do
The DDA follows the Main Street model to coordinate the public/private
partnership required to restore and revitalize Downtown. We focus
on economic development, physical design, organization and promotional
events. We are assembling information on all aspects of downtown
redevelopment, from assisting individual building owners to working
with the City to make sure that its programs benefit the widest
number of downtown property owners.
In addition to following the 4 Point Main Street approach of economic
development, design, organization and promotion, DDA is also the
proud home of the Historic Murals of Danville Committee. Two of
a planned series of ten murals have already been completed, and
plans are underway for the third. The murals will provide easy access
to public art, they will stimulate economic development in the historic
districts by attracting tourism, and they will provide a panoramic
history of our area, instilling a sense of pride in our community.

Why We Do It
As our City Council and City Manager have publicly stated, the
economic health of the City is impacted by Downtown. A Downtown
with empty buildings and blight conveys a negative image; a prosperous
Downtown tells the world that the business sector can work well
with the City to bring about positive change. Given time, the Downtown
will reclaim its role as a vital, important and pleasant place to
work, shop, and have fun.
When We Meet
The DDA Board of Directors meets the 4th Thursday of every month.
Our Executive Committee meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Please
feel free to email us or contact any Board member if you have any
questions or concerns with which DDA may be of service.
